Will definitely buy one for my T3! I'm surprised about the cost though since Winbond only mentions the need to sign a NDA to get the full specs for the chip.

It depends. My brother has a Zire72 and I have a T3, so if you have some sort of combined deal then definately yes.
($>=40 is a lot unfortunately for old devices!)
